I can reproduce the problem on my lenny system.

To me it seems that 0007-CVE-2009-1299.patch modifies configure.ac but
does not regenerate configure. This causes HAVE_FCHMOD to be undefined
which futher causes uid stay as -1.

Adding the attached 0008-regenerate-configure.patch adds configure
generated by invoking "autoconf" and makes pulseaudio start again. I
am not very familiar with autotools so you might want to regenerate it
yourself to verify that everything goes normally.
