When I try to launch pavumeter or pavucontrol then the following
assertion triggers:

$ pavumeter 
** Message: Starting in playback mode.
** Message: Using sample format: float32le 2ch 44100Hz

Assertion 'b' failed at pulsecore/memblock.c:454, function pa_memblock_acquire(). Aborting.
Aborted

Other pulseaudio clients don't seem to be effected (e.g. mplayer -ao
pulse, gnome-control-center).
