reopen 645063

Dman closes this one too early based on the feedback of the earlier reporter
and the later one.

Just to be sure, can i summarise the behaviour you're seeing as:
* You mute your card using by alsa directly, pulse follows to mute state
* You unmute your card using alsa directly, pulse stays in mute state?
