If pulseaudio works for you then of course you can't reproduce, but on that
system for some reason it doesn't work, and I don't want to take one day to
tweak configuration to make it work.

I didn't have it because on debian if sound doesn't work the quick fix is
aptitude purge pulseaudio.
If pulseaudio would have a sane default configuration and would work instead
of not work, I wouldn't have even known I had it installed, but I learned that
when audio doesn't work its it's fault, and removing it is easier than
spending hours trying to fix it.
If you are willing to help, I am willing to cooperate and send you
configuration and details about my system.

Well it takes a bit of fantasy to understand that amarok is not working
anymore because I've installed an IM client doesn't it? How are they related?
So yes from my point of view, unrelated software broke.
