This looks suspicious. What do the following commands say?

ls -la /run/user/1000
ls -la /run/user/1000/pulse

Also, what init system are you using: do you have systemd-sysv installed?

Finally, does something in particular happen before sound stops
working? Did you run a particular command, or do something in
particular with the computer?
