I don't see the symptoms, since there are no analogous controls. The two 
that are there do not synchronize in any way either (I wouldn't expect 
them to).

It is possible I updated something else.  It might also be related to 
the phenomenon at 
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Desktops/KDE/ (that 
explains there is a broken half-integrated PulseAudio mode where KDE 
isn't talking to it right).

Of course, it would be easier to compare to that if the wiki images 
weren't broken...

I'll update the bug if the original symptoms recur.
