Bug#1116202: pulseaudio: SOF digital microphone not detected

Yves-Alexis Perez corsac at debian.org
Wed Sep 24 11:17:35 BST 2025

Package: pulseaudio
Version: 17.0+dfsg1-2+b1
Severity: normal

Hi,

sorry if this is a duplicate bug, or maybe a skill issue on my part. I
recently got a Lenovo ThinkPad X13G5 and until recently didn't try to
use sound from the internal devices, just using a headset plugged on the
USB dock (which was working fine).

The soundcard is based uses the SOF firmware so I installed the
firmware-sof-signed package and that made the speakers appear in
pavucontrol and they're working just fine but the internal microphone(s)
don't seem detected.

dmesg shows:

[ 13.902169] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: Digital mics found on Skylake+ platform, using SOF driver

I've checked alsamixer and arecord -l and the microphone seems to exist:

arecord -l

card 1: sofhdadsp [sof-hda-dsp], device 6: DMIC Raw (*) []

But they're not shown in pulseaudio:

(« Microphone » seems to be the analog 3.5mm jack and it shows as
unplugged in pavucontrol).

Following some random advice on the internet, I've added the following
/etc/pulse/default.pa.d/dmic.pa file:

load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:1,6

Using the number found in arecord -l.

After restarting pulseaudio daemon I now get a new input device in
pavucontrol but it's apparently not shown in pacmd list-cards.

That device seems to get sound at first sight but I'm unsure why it's
not detected without the config file, and why it doesn't appear in
pacmd.

Any pointer appreciated.

Thank you for your work!

Regards,
