We may have tracked down the problem, see the above link for
updates.

Wrt, the actual bug related to the "other end went away" warning,
I give you the following IRC quotes with permission, and it seems as
if 0.24.8 will have the fix:

< jamesturnbull> madduck: the other end went away errors can generally be ignored - the error should be trapped better but AFAIK the connection is retried
