Package: facter
Version: 1.5.7-1
Severity: normal
Tags: fixed-upstream, patch

Hi,

the virtual fact does not detect KVM guests:

# facter | grep '^virtual'
virtual => physical

Upstream's 1.5.8 fixes this, thanks to Git commit 62b6773.

I cherry-picked this Git commit and attached it as a patch.
It applies flawlessly on the 1.5.7-1 Debian source.
A package built from the patched source works pretty well on Squeeze,
and effectively fixes this bug.

Too bad it's probably too late to get this into Squeeze, isn't it,
since it is likely many people will start using KVM during Squeeze's
lifecycle?

Although this is related to upstream bug report #2067 [1] I am not
tagging this one as forwarded because:
1. the upstream bug is more general than this one (it also targets Xen
and HyperV) so we don't want this one to follow upstream's bug
   status.
2. the upstream bug is badly maintained: there is no mention of the
fix for KVM guests, that was applied and released.
