 Actually, you might consider Julien's reply terse, but he is right (and
wasn't unfriendly even you might consider it so):

 Backports is NOT about getting bugfixes into stable but about getting
newer features on stable.  The bug is affecting the package in stable
and the proper fix for the bug is NOT a backport of a newer version but
applying the patch that seems to be in the newer version onto the stable
release.

 Again, backports is about getting newer features into stable, not about
getting bugfixes into stable.  Bugfixes should/have to go through stable
updates.
