Aah, here's the part I missed: rpath can be used at runtime by dlopen, which 
explains this requirement.

ok, then. I think the only choice is to add a lintian override. Be sure to 
document the rationale in the lintian file (and maybe a more detailed 
explanation in debian/README.source)
