Hi Holger!

I don't want to link or copy said files over to /etc, as they would
break expectations for conffiles (i.e. they will be overwritten on
upgrade). But I am adding a warning banner to cmdline.txt warning
about this, and advising the user on how to properly modify it:

I will close this bug by the next package upload. I hope this solution
