and thanks for the patch. This is also upstream ticket 8446:

It would be nice to have this integrated upstream instead of creating
a Debian-specific option that would possibly become incompatible later.
I have updated the upstream ticket accordingly.

CCing the original bug submitter to keep him up to date too.
