After upgrading to php5 5.6.0~beta3+dfsg-2, users cannot login to roundcube.  The webpage produces the error "Connection to storage server failed."

/var/log/roundcube/errors contains the following error:

IMAP Error: Login failed for soren from 127.0.0.1. Could not connect to ssl://localhost:993: Unknown reason (fsockopen() function disabled?) in /usr/share/roundcube/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_imap.php on line 184 (POST /?_task=login&_action=login)
