Upstream has given a rationale for not accepting that PR, but that
doesn't mean they're not interested in fixing the issue in the first
place (I note that issue 5051 is still open).

Not keen to maintain such a patch though in Debian, but leaving this bug
open to track its status upstream (via forwarded URL).
