Why not use a file named "Status" in the packages-wip/ dir ?
It's simpler than a wiki page.

Agreed with your list. Additional stuff:
irb + ri: really useful when developing (or their 1.8 counterparts). But
do we really want non-libs in that package ?
libopenssl-ruby: enhances many apps
libreadline-ruby: same
