Package: ruby-gettext
Version: 2.2.1-2
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-l10n-english at lists.debian.org
Dear Debian Ruby Extras Maintainers,
I believe that the current package description (0) has some spelling,
punctuation and wording issues. It is quite probable that they are
inherited
from initial upstream (2), (3).
Description: Gettext for Ruby
Ruby GetText Package is Native Language Support Library and Tools
which modeled after GNU gettext package.
.
In the first paragraph there seems to be quite a lot of unnessary
capitalisation as well as missing articles und verbs. Actually article and
verb appear at rubydoc.info (4):
Ruby-GetText-Package is a Localization(L10n) library and tool
which is
modeled after the GNU gettext package.
Features:
* Simple APIs(similar GNU gettext)
* rgettext creates po-files from ruby scripts.
The po-file is compatible to GNU gettext.
* rmsgfmt creates a mo-file from a po-file.
Are there really multiple APIs? Or is there just one API? Is the output of
rgettext "just compatible" with gettext? Couldn't one say the output
*is* a po
file when it can be processed easily by e.g. msgfmt?
As a starting point for a revised future description I suggest this version:
Description: gettext for Ruby
Ruby-GetText-Package is native language support (NLS) library and tools
which are modeled after the GNU gettext package.
.
Features:
* simple APIs (similar to GNU gettext)
* rgettext creates po-files from Ruby scripts.
The po-files are compatible with GNU gettext.
* rmsgfmt creates a mo-file from a po-file.
CCing l10n-english as I don't know what is right: po-file, po file, PO file.
Kind regards,
Martin
