[DRE-maint] Bug#737782: ruby-switch: fails to work with ruby/1:1.9.3.1

Package: ruby-switch
Version: 0.1.0
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hello,
after installing ruby/1:1.9.3.1, the alternatives for /usr/bin/ruby and
similar links seem to have been replaced by direct links.

  $ ls -altrF /usr/bin/ruby
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Feb  3 01:08 /usr/bin/ruby -> ruby1.9.1*

As a consequence, ruby-switch stopped working:

  # ruby-switch --list
  update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for ruby

Is there a working strategy for setting the default system-wide Ruby
interpreter in a clean and practical way?
Should ruby-switch be adapted to the new strategy or should it be
removed from Debian sid?

Please let me know.
Thanks for your time!
