I'd like to, I can ask you to test it before uploading if you are
interested.

This was required because it would fail otherwise on a clean system
which does not have a .ssh directory. Bugs are part of any development
process, there is a reason we have unstable, testing and stable
branches, if you cannot understand that, I suggest you wait till stretch
release.
