Yes, but the scripts don't prevent piuparts from throwing errors and unstable
users from writing invalid bug reports. Been there, done that when I was on
the MATE team.

It causes a minimal extra work, yes. But it avoids these bug reports and long
discussions. We have received such bug reports not just once in the MATE
team but many times since many unstable users don't understand the concept
of the NEW queue.
Other teams like the KDE team usually take the experimental detour as well,
it's common practice.
