I would guess that this needs a fix similar to https://salsa.debian.org/rust-team/debcargo-conf/-/commit/d79e7153031cbb2485d722b7bf4aec9d33b9a61e but implementing such a fix is beyond my skills.

This is blocking the migration of rust-xdg to testing and hence making newsboat unbuildable in testing.
