Sorry for not providing a summary in my previous mail.

The conclusion so far is that

  - ftp-master doesn't have the resources to discuss this. Neither to
    look at the package in question and provide guidance, nor to
    discuss simplified examples, nor to discuss other packages that do
    the same for decades already

  - other packages doing the same for decades doesn't mean that it's
    correct and if they do the same then this should be reported (which
    I did for some), but that also doesn't mean that ftp-master has the
    resources to even look at those

  - you can upload a new version of the package and describe why you
    think this is providing the "preferred form of modification" and
    then hope that whoever looks at the package agrees with you
