Would you like to share why the feature was patched out?

My reason for needing the feature is not a secret.  I am however
reluctant to write elaborate bugreport for packages that seem to not
be elaborately packaged.

Concretely, and as also mentioned in this bugreport, lack of DEP-3
patch headers that would help hint at the reason for the existence of a
patch.

So let's trade: Please first share why it was patched out. ;-)
