This is kinda like the atuin situation: a whole dependency stack hard to 
upgrade, especially together, and here only even more loaded - the entire 
gix stack, tens of packages.

I have to admit upfront that I don't have this much time or energy to 
handle an entire transition stack, and even to patch it (starship) down 
to the versions packaged in Debian wouldn't be an easy undertaking. So - 
please be patient. At least it's only lacking some features and fixes 
(which can probably be cherry picked if necessary), not outright failing 
to connect to a server.
