just a quick mail to say that I was looking a bit into a
cleaner way to<br>
bootstrap cargo (ie. without embedding a binary).<br>
<br>
It is my understanding that some other distros (Bitrig, some
*BSD) are<br>
currently relying on this:<br>
<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://github.com/dhuseby/cargo-bootstrap"
rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">https://github.com/dhuseby/cargo-bootstrap</a><br>
<br>
It is a minimal python script that mimics cargo
fetch&build capabilities to<br>
locally build a stage0 cargo. It needs python-dulwich (already
in debian) and<br>
python-pytoml (I've just uploaded this to NEW).<br>
<br>
With those, and embedding only crate-index plus all cargo
source dependencies,<br>
I was more or less able to bootstrap it from sources only.<br>
<br>
Some comments:<br>
* git2-rs depends on newer libgit2, I added a note here[0]
and pinged<br>
debian maintainer for 0.23.0-1 ETA<br>
* I had some issue with curl-sys and openssl-sys, but this
was probably my<br>
mistake<br>
* post-configure (ie. stage1), Cargo.{toml|lock} needs to be
somehow adjusted<br>
to use local crates. I haven't yet looked into this,
pointers are welcome.<br>
<br>
I still have no idea how to ship all cargo dependencies in
debian (embedded<br>
with cargo? multiple source-only package?), but at least it
looks like a<br>
start :)<br>
