TTBOMK, PIE is only relevant when you have a kernel patched to support
random executable load addresses.  Since these patches aren't in the Debian
kernel, and probably won't be at least for a long while, my vote is for
disabling -fPIE in favor of getting useful debugging info until something
changes on either the gdb or the kernel front.
