That bug is much more probably to be triggered if you configure the
number of ntlm authenticators to be high. This problem happened when I
used "70", like:

auth_param ntlm children 70

That is an unreasonable setting, but the fds leak makes the problem worse.

I've confirmed that this problem is still not fixed in the code of the
recently updated 3.0.24-2, but I was not able to reproduce it yet.
