Geoff, thanks for your detailed reports which coimpletes John's
report.
John, so far, you didn't send us the smb.conf of the system that
experiences the problem.
IMHO, you both sent enough details for us to report this upstream and
give them a good chance to fix that bug (eventually suggesting that it
could be connected to bug #1094).
I'll try to do this ASAP.....which can take time.
Don't expect a fix in etch, however, that would be a false promise,
sorry for that.
