Again, thanks Geoff for this invaluable contribution to narrow down
this bug.

It has been reported upstream as:

https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4331

To my experience, the Samba Team is very responsive to such bug
reports and we can have a good hope for a good progress on the issue
'maybe not soon, though, as the issue could be complicated to track
down).
