Jerry Carter followed up in this bug after the following was reported
and pointed that the default value of "msdfs root" was changed in
3.0.25:

The change in the default setting for "msdfs root" was describe 
in the release notes.  Perhaps we should have added a stringer 
mention that clients cache this setting for a given server.
In either case, there is no bug in Samba.  Simple confusing 
client behavior.

As a consequence, I'm tempted to close this bug report as soon as the
bug submitter confims that either rebooting the clients...or changing
that setting in smb.conf is OK to solve the issue.

Without news, we'll close the bug anyway in 1 or 2 weeks.

Hi,

I found a workaround for this problem was adding:

msdfs root = yes

to smb.conf.



You probably know that anyway but I saw the bug report and thought i'd let
you know.
