Is there any chance that you can test whether this is also a problem with
the 3.0.27a Samba package in unstable?  The package can't be installed
directly on etch, so it would require a rebuild or a test on a system
running unstable (or an unstable chroot).

If you're not able to test just say so and I'll find the time to put
together a test case here; but if you are able, that would help us track
this down more quickly by telling me whether we need to refer this to
upstream, or seek out the change from 3.0.27a that was missed in the
security release.
