OK, fine. First benefit from this discussion, then...
Still, upstream's default to "lockdir" seems broken to me, whatever
they think the file should be.

Hmm, being arbitrary is often tricky..:). Anyway, just playing with
words here. We need to define what number we consider "appropriate".
