So the 'share' output is mangled when /bin/sh = dash.

Or is this not what you meant?

Agreed, but that just makes it a very, very low priority bug, not a non-bug.

Well, printf is part of POSIX; while that's no guarantee, it doesn't seem to
make it *less* portable than this use of echo...
