What did you upgrade to 2.6.25?

The server, or the client?

Apparently, from what I read here and there, many changes have been
made to the CIFS driver in 2.6.25 (and the smbfs driver has just been
dropped...finally). I want at least to have as much information as
possible before reporting this to upstream and see if they can|want
fix 2.0.28 to work with 2.6.25 kernels.

Can you also try with the version of samba in experimental (for your
laptop, of course....upgrading your etch server is out of question)?
This is samba 3.2.0-pre2.
