Really, I think the simplest solution is probably the best one here. Setattr's
aren't so common that the extra network traffic will likely be noticed. It will
obviously have some cost, but that's the price of correctness.

I also don't see how you can special case this either. How will you be
determining whether the underlying filesystem on the server supports
fine-grained timestamps? How do you intend to deal with shares that span
multiple filesystems?
