From Jeremy Allison in upstream bug #6024:

Running Samba with share modes = No is not really a supported configuration (in
fact it's never tested in any of our trees). In the 3.3 codebase it is only
looked at in one place. The real solution to this is "don't do that".

And, indeed, the smb.conf(5) man page says:

          You should NEVER turn this parameter off as many Windows applications will break if you do so.


So, we can safely assume that upstream will indeed never fix this
issue..:-)
