[Pkg-samba-maint] samba-base package ?

Hi,

I've finished adding alternatives to the Samba 3 and 4 packages in
experimental. The only remaining conflicts are:

samba-tools: Conflicts with samba4 and samba4-testsuite
smbclient: Conflicts with samba4-clients
winbind: Conflicts with winbind4

The alternatives will generally prefer the Samba 3 versions of binaries,
except for nmblookup (more advanced in Samba 4) and *.dat (same data in
both Samba's so same priority).

The one remaining issue is the ownership of the shared configuration
files. /etc/samba/gdbcommands and /etc/samba/smb.conf can only be owned
by a single package, but both samba4-common and samba-common claim it at
the moment. There are also 4 small architecture-independent files
(lowcase.dat, upcase.dat, valid.dat and panic-action) that are shared
verbatim between Samba 3 and Samba 4.

Would it make sense to create a new simple Arch: all package (say, named
samba-base) that contains those 4 data files and owns and
manages /etc/samba/gdbcommands and /etc/samba/smb.conf? Both Samba 3 and
4 could then depend on this package.

Cheers,

Jelmer
