thanks

I just noticed this happened on a system running lenny:

        nmbd 18477 root 2w REG 253,3 761089 0 88461 /var/log/samba/log.smbd.1 (deleted)
        nmbd 18477 root 17w REG 253,3 761089 0 88461 /var/log/samba/log.smbd.1 (deleted)
        smbd 18485 root 2w REG 253,3 409764 0 88463 /var/log/samba/log.smbd.1 (deleted)
        smbd 18485 root 7w REG 253,3 409764 0 88463 /var/log/samba/log.smbd.1 (deleted)

At the time I noticed this, /var/log/samba/log.smbd was empty. When I
ran '/etc/init.d/samba reload' the following message was written to that
file:

        [2009/07/19 12:55:32, 1] smbd/server.c:open_sockets_smbd(645)
          Reloading services after SIGHUP

However, the smbd and nmbd processes did not close their handles to
log.smbd.1. Doing a 'restart' instead did fix the problem.
