It is unlikely that this will ever receive attention from the developers of
the CIFS driver; fixing this involves adding a significant amount of new,
security-sensitive string handling code to the kernel, to support a use case
that's negligible, and less relevant as time passes. The OSes you reference
are themselves unsupported and incapable of negotiating passwords securely
over a network. I recommend that you migrate your servers to a reasonably
modern file sharing platform.
