I think we should take the opportunity of 3.4 landing in unstable
"soon" to include these changes. It already has many packaging changes
anyway.

So, I would vote for you to merge this in experimental. Then we can
upload 3.4.0~pre1-2 with these changes to experimental as a first
"shoot in the dark" test..:)
