Well, I may need explanations here because I *do* think this is an
admin interface or, at least, I always advise people to use this
instead of unforceibly running /etc/init.d/<foo>, the supposed
advantage being that what I did choose in /etc/rc<runlevel>.d is
respected (for instance, on my own laptop, I changed the S link to a K
link so that samba is not started when the system boots).
This is also the first time I hear about "service <foo> start" so
there might be some developer information that's missing
somewhere..:-)
I see that it was introduced in sysvinit 2.86.ds1-62. There might be
some wider information maybe....or maybe I'm just a prick and missed
it. CC'ing sysvinit folks to get a useful advice. There might anyway
be a good communication in squeeze release notes about
dependency-based init system.
