The dpkg-gensymbols man page (which is about my only technical
knowledge about symbols and libraries) clearly tells that publicly
exported symbols should indeed never be dropped from libraries (this
is obvious as, to my understanding, it breaks the API by dropping
support for some functions, am I right?).

So, should this be reported upstream? If so, I would need backup
(Steve?) as talking about this in details makes it clear very quickly
that I know nothing about all this programming stuff..:-))

Meanwhile, all this prevents me from packaging 3.6.0....:-(
