[Pkg-samba-maint] Migrating packaging branches post-wheezy to Git?

Hi!

I'm currently once again looking at merging the packaging branches for
Samba 3 and Samba 4. This is becoming ever more relevant now that Samba
4.0.0 is getting closer and closer. 

It would really help if we could migrate to a single version control
system as a first step before we attempt this merge. 

I'd like to have a look at converting the existing Samba 3 package to
Git, so we can switch over to that once jessie opens. Would that be
reasonable?
