To enable a user to set up shares per
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/manpages/net.8.html I'd earlier added:
usershare path = /usr/local/samba/usershares

and created that directory, owned by group sambashare. Appended that group
to the share-creating user and was able to use net usershare add without
errors, with the share reported in net usershare info.
