Probably the easiest way to get started is by helping to follow up to some of
the existing bugs in the Samba package. Browse through the bugs on
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=samba

This might involve improving the package by sending patches to the
repository at git://git.debian.org/pkg-samba/samba.git, following up
to the reporter asking for more information, or linking to the bug report in the
upstream bug tracker (https://bugzilla.samba.org/).

Let me know if there's anything we can help with to get you started, e.g.
pointers to further documentation, etc.

Jelmer
