[Pkg-samba-maint] Samba libpam-smbpass removed

I've seen that libpam-smbpass has been removed from the compiled
packages, is still possible syncing passwords between unix and samba
with the passwd backend? Does a workaround exists or some package that
replace libpam-smbpass?
