With the reference to https://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7692&start=20 ,
apparently it was some arm-specific issue in the kernel tso implementation
in kernel 3.16.

It looks like this prob has nothing to do with samba after all,
and hopefully it has been fixed in kernel since that time.
Let's close this bug report now.
