thanks for your work on knocking samba packages into better shape
over the last few months.
You asked:

Yes, we have the same usernames (and uids) in both.
This is by design and has worked for many years.
It continues to work, I have machines running version
2:4.5.16+dfsg-1+deb9u4
with no issue.
I think this bug can be closed.
I was actually doing something unsupoprted before,
but got away with it for a while. As I outlined in message #20
making the now-required config change fixed it in my environment.
I think Thibalt's issue is different, he has kerberos set up
and security = ads on version 4.13, all of which means quite
different code paths.
