I can't reproduce this.  Neither with password2=xxx, nor without.
Neither with password2 specified on the command line nor in the
credentials file, nor specified as an environment variable
(PASSWD2).  Everything just works here.

The only case when it fails the way you describe is when you
explicitly specify an empty password2 (password2=).
How exactly do you specify password2?

This looks more like an invalid usage than a bug.
