Shift key problem with Atari800 (SDL frontend) in Debian Testing?

I'm not sure if this a new problem with Atari800, or libSDL, or what...
but I can no longer use the [Shift] key!

e.g., if I press [Shift]+[;], I don't get a ":" character... nothing happens.
(Neither in BASIC, or in the keyboard Self Test).

  $ atari800 --version
  Atari 800 Emulator, Version 1.3.2

  (Specifically, Debian Testing package Version: 1.3.2-1.1)


  $ sdl-config --version
  1.2.9

  (Specifically, Version: 1.2.9-4 of Package: libsdl1.2debian-all)


Any ideas?
